The Quality in Diabetes Care (QIDC) Meeting was originally developed by A/Prof Esther Briganti and A/Prof Dennis Engler to provide a forum for trainees to learn by presenting and discussing commonly encountered problems in diabetes care. The first meeting was held in 2016 with trainees from Victoria and Tasmania. With Esther’s and Dennis’ passion and commitment to education, the QIDC has gone from strength to strength such that it has become national with meetings in VIC/TAS, NSW/ACT, QLD/NT, WA and SA. The meetings consist of case-based clinical presentations by endocrinology advanced trainees, fellows and other speciality advanced trainees wanting to enter the program. It is followed by a discussion of relevant evidence and some question time. Trainees are invited to submit abstracts relating to common challenges in diabetes clinical practice and the aim is to think critically about the evidence behind routine practice. The Australian Diabetes Society (ADS) is very proud to be involved with and support the QIDC program. At the Australasian Diabetes Congress (ADS), the best finalist presentation from each State/Territory meeting will be selected to present at ADC and share their presentation in the QIDC session. An overall national winner will be selected.
