Any medical graduate or scientist interested in diabetes mellitus; or has a key clinical role in professional care of people with diabetes, may apply for Ordinary Membership of the Society. Applicant must reside in Australia.
Please Note: Ordinary Membership conveys similar benefits to Specialist membership, except for right to vote on certain matters, and fewer positions on the Council.

A Specialist Member is considered if they are:
(1) a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP) and has satisfactorily completed training in Diabetes Management supervised by the Specialist Advisory Committee in Endocrinology of the RACP, or equivalent training acceptable, in its discretion, to the National Council; or
(2) a scientist with a higher degree (PhD, MD) in a field of research relevant to diabetes.
Please Note: Applicant must provide evidence of the above to be considered as a specialist member. Applicant must reside in Australia.

Applications for reduced rates (student) including signature and phone number of Supervisor is required for student members. A student is classified as a member who is involved studying (part time or full time) with an annual income limit of A$35,000. Proof of student status must accompany the membership application form.

The following applies as a Corresponding Member:-
(1) has the right to receive notices of and to attend and be heard at any general meeting; but
(2) has no right to vote at any general meeting

Member no longer working actively in a full-time role may be admitted as a Retired Member. Proof of either evidence of retirement or a signed statement is required and provided to the ADS Secretariat.

Once applications are received by the Society Office, they are submitted for consideration at the next ADS Council Meeting. The Society Office will inform the applicants by a written letter of their membership status. If your application is successful, we will send you instructions on how to login to the Member area via the ADS website. Once your application is approved the Society Office will process your membership fee payment and will send the applicant a receipt of payment. Applicants official membership commences from the day that application is approved by the ADS Council.
The Australian Diabetes Society complies with the new Australian Privacy Principles; The Privacy Amendment (Enhancing Privacy Protection) Act 2012, effective 12 March 2014. Personal information provided by Members, or that has been provided prior to 12 March 2014, will only be used or disclosed by the Australian Diabetes Society in accordance with the National Privacy Principles for purposes directly related to membership of the Society.
The Australian Diabetes Society will not disclose personal information to third parties except to hospitals and other health institutions, medical colleges and specialist medical societies, and to service providers, and only for purposes directly related to:
• providing education, training and continuing medical education / professional development;
• the supply of services and products endorsed by or associated with the Australian Diabetes Society; and
• membership of the Society.
In such circumstances the Australian Diabetes Society will use all reasonable efforts to ensure that the recipient handles such personal information in accordance with appropriate privacy principles and only for the purpose for which it was provided.
Future requests for any Member to provide or update personal information will be accompanied by a request for the Member’s consent for any disclosure of that information in accordance with the privacy legislation.
