The Australian Diabetes Society (ADS) and the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) reaffirm their strong partnership as leaders in diabetes education, management and research. The exciting and innovative program will bring together national and international experts to promote the exchange of the latest clinical practices and cutting-edge research in diabetes. State-of-the-Art lectures, free communication sessions and clinical and scientific educational symposia, will all be appreciated by the 2025 attendees #25ADC

Notice of the ADS Annual General Meeting 2025

Notice is hereby given to members of the Australian Diabetes Society Limited to inform you that the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held in-person on Thursday 21st August, 2025 from TBA (AEST). The AGM will be held during the Australasian Diabetes Congress (ADC) at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. Please note that there will be no option to attend the AGM virtually this year. Please advise the ADS Secretariat in writing via email to admin@diabetessociety.com.au at least 48 hours prior to the AGM, if you will be an apology. All financial members (Paid subs to 30 June 2026) of the society are welcome to attend the AGM. We look forward to seeing you there!

2025 ADS Australasian Diabetes Congress Awards

A number of awards and grants are available for ADS members attending the 2025 Australasian Diabetes Congress that will be held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, QLD from Wednesday 20 to Friday 22 August 2025. 

Please see below for all ADS ADC Awards and Grants on offer for 2025:-

ADS Poster Awards

ADS Poster Awards for both Discovery Science and Clinical Research will be on offer during the 2025 ADS/ADEA Australasian Diabetes Congress. ADS Poster Awards are to the value of $500 each.

Eligibility is as follows:

1. A financial member of the ADS (Paid subs for 2025)2. Applicants must be an early career researcher3. You must be available to present at the time of the poster session4. Each applicant must provide a supporting statement including one signed by his/her supervisor or department head, indicating that the work presented is substantially the candidate’s own work

ADS Pincus Taft Young Investigator Award

The ADS-Pincus Taft Young Investigator Award is to the value of $2000. The finalists will be categorised into Discovery Science and the award will be given to the best oral presentation by a junior ADS member at the Australasian Diabetes Congress as judged by peer review and a committee appointed by the ADS Council.

Eligibility is as follows:

1. A financial member of the ADS for 12 months at the time of application(Member must have joined as a member of ADS no later than May 2024 and Paid subs for 2025)2. Applicants must not be more than 2 years beyond the award of a doctoral degree (PhD, MD) or fellowship (FRACP)3. Each applicant must provide a supporting statement including one signed by his/her supervisor or department head, indicating that the work presented is substantially the candidate’s own work4. Previous winners of this award are in-eligible to apply5. Finalist applicants must present work of abstract submitted for the conference; if not they will be in-eligible to receive the award 6-8 applicants will be selected from abstracts to present in the ADS-Pincus Taft Young Investigators Session.

ADS President’s Young Investigator Award

The ADS President’s Young Investigator Award is to the value of $2000. The finalists will be categorised into Clinical Research and the award will be given to the best oral presentation by a junior ADS member at the Australasian Diabetes Congress as judged by peer review and a committee appointed by the ADS Council.

Best ADS Clinical Presentation Award in memory of Dr Paul Lee

The Best ADS Clinical Presentation Award in memory of Dr Paul Lee is to the value of $1,250. The finalists will be categorised into Clinical Research and the award will be given to the best oral presentation by an ADS member at the Australasian Diabetes Congress that will be held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, QLD from Wednesday 20 to Friday 22 August 2025 and judged by peer review and a committee appointed by the ADS Council. 2019 was the inaugural year of this annual award.

Eligibility is as follows:

1. A financial member of the ADS for 12 months at the time of application(Member must have joined as a member of ADS no later than May 2024 and Paid subs for 2025)2. Applicants must be a mid-career clinical researcher (4-10 years post-doctoral)3. Each applicant must provide a supporting statement indicating that the work presented is substantially their own work4. 6-8 applicants will be selected from the submitted abstracts to present in the award session5. Previous winners of this award are in-eligible to apply6. Finalist applicants must present work of abstract submitted for the conference; if not they will be in-eligible to receive the award

This year a number of ADS Travel Grants will be awarded to junior investigators who have an abstract accepted for presentation at the 2025 Australasian Diabetes Congress that will be held from Wednesday 20 to Friday 22 August 2025. The number and size of grants will be determined according to the number and suitability of applications and the funds available. The travel grants will provide a significant contribution to the individuals travel costs to attend the congress. Applications will be prioritised using abstract review scores.Eligibility is as follows:
1. A financial member of the ADS for 12 months at the time of application(Applicant must have joined as a member of ADS no later than July 2023 and Paid subs to 30 June 2025)2. In training for a higher degree eg. PhD, MD, fellowship or medical specialty3. Supported by a statement from the candidate’s supervisor or department head indicating the nature of their present position and the availability of other sources of financial support for their registration to the congress4. Travel Grants will be made directly to the member and not their respective institution5. Abstracts must be submitted and accepted for sessions within the ADS program only (clinical or discovery science)Note: Applicants must not be in receipt of a grant from any other body to attend the ADS/ADEA Australasian Diabetes Congress or a meeting in association with the ADS/ADEA ADC.

Category 2 RACGP QI&CPD points are available for GPs that attend oral plenary and symposium sessions within the congress program. Free communication oral and poster sessions are not accredited for CPD activity. Allocation of two points per hour is permitted for clinical education of up to a maximum of 30 QI&CPD points for the ADC educational activity (over 3 days). General Practitioners are requested to self report to the RACGP to receive the eligible points.
